Stass Shpanin is a visual artist whose work is focused on interpretations and fabrications of the past. His work ranges from monumental paintings and drawings showcasing European and American history to immersive installations embracing institutional critique. Shpanin completed his MFA in painting from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University. In 2012, he received a Fulbright Fellowship award to Russia, where he continued his visual research. Shpanin’s artworks have been shown internationally, and venues include Smack Mellon Gallery in New York, ToBE Gallery in Bern, Switzerland, Gridchinhall Gallery in Moscow, Five Points Gallery in Torrington, Connecticut, and Temple Contemporary in Philadelphia, among others.

 

Shpanin’s art studio is based in Philadelphia, and he is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Art at the Department of Visual, Media, and Performing Arts at Rutgers University–Camden.
